Fall Fae

Growing up my mom made our Halloween costumes from scratch. Sometimes from a pattern, sometimes just off the top of her head. It is one of the many things my mother did that inspires me still today.
In keeping with the tradition of handmade costumes, I too make my kids' costumes for Halloween or what ever occasion requires a costume, even just a photo shoot.
In October of 2014 my two youngest daughters wanted to be fairies. I looked though my stash of fabrics and couldn't find enough of one fabric so I figured I would make some fabric.

I played my favorite Pandora station, pulled out my olive greens and egg plant purples and went to work piecing together a "shabby" woodland fairy costume.

 Pulling Scraps

I repurposed some olive green knit fabrics from a mermaid costume I made for my oldest daughter in 2013 as a base and accent pieces. After laying out the fabric pieces I pinned them in place and began sewing.

This is the result of "quilting the pieces together. I didn't want it too neat so the fabrics that did not have enough synthetic threads to heat seal I left raw. I heat sealed the others so it wouldn't to messy looking, kind of a bohemian gypsy look.

I then trimmed out the pieces and made ruffles with the repurposed fabric and pieces I had in my stash. I made a halter type top that tied at the neck and buttoned up the back.

Here is the final result of putting the pieces together. I also made her wings and head piece. I will be listing her costume in my Etsy shop. Her wings and head piece have already sold.

We Are Moving!

If you live in the Atlanta, Georgia area then lucky you. I am not from Georgia but my husband is. I had lived there since 1991 until we moved to Peoria, Illinois last year. We have been here for 10 months and have decided to go home.

I will be focusing on getting my blog, website and Etsy shop up to date with the latest photo sessions and products for Lily Mairi. I will also be booking clients for fine art portrait sessions for the fall and traditional portraits starting in July.

In the mean time here are a few images for some new items for Lily Mairi

Behind Every Bride's Bridal Bash 2014

I usually don't do many art/craft shows. They are lots of work and sometimes they are a flop. You just never know. But, as we haven't lived here long, I wanted to attend a few just to meet other makers and antique dealers in the area. So when Valerie from Rustic Junction contacted me about being a vendor in the Bridal Bash, I jumped on it.

I played around with my set up to try to refine it and figure out how to mesh all of my items in one area. Here is what I came up with:

I had my laptop (which converts to a tablet) playing my portfolio.

As I set up I had come up with some other ideas that I may use if I attend another show. In the mean time I feel like the set up was good and I received several comments the uniqueness and "radness" of my display as well as my products.

One day I'd like to have my own store front that has my art and photography studio in it as well. But until then I will keep dreaming and creating.
